What this IQ test measures
IQScore Fun is a free 20-question reasoning test for people who enjoy puzzles. The questions come from three areas: math puzzles such as number sequences, percentages and ratios; logical reasoning such as deductions, analogies and ordering problems; and visual pattern recognition, where you work out what changes from one shape to the next. Together they sample the kinds of thinking that formal IQ assessments rely on: working with numbers, following rules and spotting structure.
How the score works
Every correct answer adds 3.25 points to a base of 70, so the estimated score runs from 70 to 135. Unanswered questions count as incorrect. Scores below 90 are labeled Developing, 90 to 109 Average, 110 to 119 Superior, 120 to 129 Very Superior, and 130 or higher Exceptional. Because the test is short, treat the number as a rough estimate. Professionally administered tests such as the Wechsler scales use many more questions, are scored against large reference groups and are given by trained examiners.
Tips for a better score
Read each question twice before answering. If one stumps you, pick your best guess and return to it later with the Back button or the question dots; you have about a minute per question. In visual puzzles, check four things in order: the shape, the count, the fill and the rotation. In number sequences, look at the differences between neighbors first, then the ratios. A good night of sleep before the test helps more than any trick. For more ideas, read our guide on ways to sharpen your thinking.
